Registered Agent for Home Businesses

Do you run a business from your home in Virginia? Using us as your registered agent can help maintain your privacy.

Your registered agent must have an accessible street address and cannot use a P.O. Box or other drop box service. This “registered office” address is publicly available through the State Corporation Commission’s web site. In addition, both corporations and limited liability companies must disclose a “principal office” address, which is the address where a copy of your company formation documents are kept. This principal office address is also publicly disclosed on the SCC website. If you are a Virginia corporation your principal office address on file with the State Corporation Commission can be a P.O. Box or similar mail drop location. However, that’s not the case if you’re a Virginia LLC. Virginia LLC’s may not use a P.O. Box as their principal office address and must, instead, use a street address.

Therefore, if you operate from your home and don’t want your home address to be publicly available from the State Corporation Commission, you can use us as your registered agent (so our address is the one used) and a Mailboxes, etc.-type address for your principal office address (if you’re a corporation). If you’re an LLC and you have us form your LLC for you, we allow the use of our address as the “principal office” address because it will comply with the law.

Your home address stays out of the State Corporation Commission’s database, helping preserve your privacy.

If you are operating as a corporation or an LLC, nominating us as your Virginia registered agent and registered office has the benefit of directing the Sheriff’s Office or process server to us rather than your home in the event that a lawsuit, subpoena, or other service of process is directed at your company.
